FAQs

Why should you hire a college counselor?

Knowledge is power and when you work with an independent college counselor you will get one-on-one personalized guidance specifically catered to you. You will experience an application process that is less stressful and you will execute a balanced college list that features schools that are a good fit for you.

When should you start?

Most students begin working with a college counselor during their junior year of high school—this is when the bulk of the application work is completed. Occasionally, a student will begin earlier in high school (9th or 10th grade) to support a more comprehensive approach to high school course and extracurricular activity planning.

Will anyone know you are working with a private college counselor?

No. I believe in maintaining your privacy and confidentiality. I will only communicate with other individuals related to the college application process, and that information will be clearly disclosed.

How do I deliver my services?

My services have always been delivered virtually. This was an intentional decision and has many benefits. For starters, it is much easier for my students to schedule their meetings around their other activities. All student tasks, tools, and resources are online and parents can view them and monitor their student’s progress. And that’s just the beginning . . .

Who is my target student?

I don’t have a target student—I work with all types of students. I evaluate the student’s academic profile and develop a college list that features schools that are appropriate. Do I have students attending Ivy League schools (or Ivy League equivalent)? Yes, but most of my students are not striving to attend highly selective institutions.

Do I offer payment plans?

Yes—Depending on which package you select and when you begin working with me. Services will not begin and a student’s place will not be secure until payment is made and the contract is signed.

Why should you choose Educated Pathways?

This is the first decision you will make in the college application process that involves fit. Am I the right college counselor for you?

Learn More About Me & My Approach

Here are a few ways my Comprehensive College Planning Package is different:

Unlimited college counseling hours

Mandatory weekly meetings August 1 to December 1 (or all applications are submitted) of Senior year (Comprehensive Plan Only)

Structured supplemental essay draft submission calendar

Weekly status email August 1 to December 1 of Senior year

It is important to determine if I am the right counselor for your student. While some counselors are more laid back and allow the student to take the initiative, that is not my approach to Comprehensive College Planning. I act more like a project manager and facilitate the completion of application work on a predetermined timeline. Your student will still accept responsibility for all application work, which will help them gain the independence they need to be successful in college.
